Madonna has a lot of concurrence to fight against these days, there is a plethora of young successful female pop stars on the market, from Taylor Swift to Beyoncé, Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, the Rebel Heart singer has a ard time to keep her position of queen of pop … So how can she win at 56? By enrolling all of them in the same video. And it may have worked if the music and the video for ‘Bitch I’m Madonna’ weren’t so terrible!
Let’s see, there are so many celeb cameos that I may not have all of them, but you will recognize (or not) an all-star (mostly) Tidal cast: Kanye West, Beyoncé, Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Chris Rock, Rita Ora, designer Alexander Wang, her sons Rocco and David, Nicki Minaj, Diplo,… obviously she is trying to compete with the all-star cast of Taylor Swift’s last one.
I had to watch it at least twice, and the second time was not easier, why does Madonna think she can get away with this crap? Can we buy her as the next teen pop star? Obviously not, but she is trying so much with this autotune pop-electronic-rap, this ecstasy EDM party that she looks pathetic. Plus, are we still chocked by Madonna kissing a few young girls and black toy boys? I am not! The problem with Madonna is that she is trapped in the character she has been methodically building for years and years of sweaty dance, hard work and catchy pop songs, but it is done so mechanically, executed in such a calculated manner that it has become unbearable to watch. I tend to think Madonna has no sense of humor and takes herself very seriously, otherwise how could she even think to be in competition with 20 or 30-something women on the pop market without injecting a single funny thing in a video? Sure she is still there, thanks to an army of plastic surgeons and personal trainers to keep her wrinkle-free and very flexible, but it is a bore. And what about these little kids singing ‘’cause I’m a bad bitch’? So trashy, and so trendy!
I have never been a fan but Madonna used to set the trends, to re-invent fashion and influence culture, she was a leader. Now look at this video, the bad pink hair extensions, the bad twerking, the bad use of the obliged female rapper, she just look like a follower.
