What is Beck’s problem? According to Spinner, the musician has sued a Texas duo named Paul Cauthen and Dave Whitbeck, then known as Beck and Cauthen, on the basis that the public could mix them up with him??
Dave Whitbeck declared:
‘It was shocking at first. We literally had the red light on in the studio, Paul was running the session and I was recording something, and it just put a halt to everything.’
They promptly changed their name to Sons of Fathers, but they also had to redo or alter artwork, website, and other merchandise carrying their name.
At the end, it generated some publicity for the almost unknown band, so, despite the delay, it didn’t turn badly for them.
But I’ve found the story a little diva-on-the-side, if the guy’s name had been Beck instead of Whitbeck, would Beck have authorized him to use his own name? I doubt,… May be Wayne Coyne was right when he said Beck was taking himself way too seriously.
