It seems I write about auctions, KISS and cruises most often. I suppose it’s because I find it stunning that people care about any of these things. The levels of fanaticism are amazing. Auctioning off John Lennon’s tooth, KISS comics, Weezer cruises, it’s a world in a topsy turvy economy yet still these things get paid. This latest auction has an opening bid of $10,000. Not the largest I’ve seen but not pocket change. Figure that’s Imans Ticketmaster monthly statement. “Best of The Beatles” is one of two acetates known in existence. A two LP set from 1964 that was a compilation of Beatles Capitol and Vee-Jay hit. It couldn’t be released by Capitol because Vee-Jay still owned the rights- so there it sat.
This item will also include a letter of authenticity by Clifford J. Yamasaki of Let It Be Records in San Francisco which reads:
“ I certify that this 2 LP acetate of ‘The Best of the Beatles’ is one of two known to exist and was purchased from a Capitol Records executive for a project that was scrapped. The project: #46934-41. The date of pressing: 6-2-64.”
Get your wallets out. Beatles fans aren’t as bizarre as Elvis fans but theyre down close. Expect a ruckus.
