Of course, Liam Gallagher still thinks he can be John Lennon, … will it come a day when it gets a little bit old for people? I don’t know, but have you noticed how his new band name begins with the same three letters than the Beatles? I say it was on purpose, Oasis was way too far in the CD bins.
That said, ‘Morning son’ is a catchy song, interesting enough, with its slow acoustic guitar beginning, its reverb vocals over a sun-drenched sea landscape; it builds up like a awakening that cannot end with Beatles-que guitars, before the melody races toward a megalomaniac explosive ending.
But is it son or sun in the lyrics? I’m not sure, I never understood his bloody English accent, …’You go your way and I’ll go mine, I’ll stand alone’, hum, … at least, I know whom he is talking about.
‘Morning son’ is the last song on Beady Eye’s debut album ‘Different Gear, Still Speeding’, and I can’t tell what is actually different. The song has that formulaic Oasis construction, it builds upon familiarity, without saying auto-plagiarism, once again seeking for that rock anthem; it’s Liam screaming at Noel and the whole wide world, look at me, I’m the morning son, and I can be the four Beatles just by myself! So what has actually changed?
