I missed this story but apparently Capitol Records (Nessing warned me about them, by the way) sued Katy Perry for copywrite infringement because Snoop raps “I wish they all could be california girls” and Capitol claimed copywright infringement.
The Beach Boys are on the recordas loving the song and subsequently The Beach Boys released a statement: “Rondor owns the track and called Brian and Mike, saying they were going to complain. Brian likes Katy’s record and doesn’t know where the situation stands. “Mike and Brian wrote the song… but any legal action is up to Rondor.”
Over and above the pure stupidity look at that statement before we waste any tears on the major labels. The Beach Boys don’t owe the rights to “California Girls”.
Now that is sad.
