BBC's Radio 2 Top 10 Albums Of All Time (Annotated)

Far be it for rock nyc to tell the listeners of Radio 2 -the Adult Oriented Rock music station from the UK, that they are idiots but they are idiots. As part of a "Golden Age Of The Album" series, the listeners voted on the best albums of all time and what the hell Coldplay's relentlessly mediocre second album is doing on the # 1 spot is beyond me. Not one album would've made my top ten (though several might have made my top 20). As it is, this is the definition of middle class squeakiness. It is all English white boys (except for Dido).

1. Coldplay – Rush Of Blood To The Head (2002) -Yeah, "The Scientist" is a good song. Otherwise, this is an overwrought bore – C

2. Keane – Hopes and Fears (2004) – This is a joke right. Keane exist so people will take Coldplay seriously. I wouldn't be surprised if Coldplay paid em off – C-

3. Duran Duran – Rio (1982) – I loathed this band at the time, twee pop for tweens and coke heads – C

4. Pink Floyd – The Dark Side Of The Moon (1973) – A masterpiece and PF's greatest moment with Syd Barrett – A+

5. Dido – No Angel (1999) – Ambient modern pop – B

6. The Rolling Stones – Sticky Fingers (1971) – OK, not my fave Stones but I'll take it – A

7. The Pet Shop Boys – Actually (1987) – Now here is an album, PSB's superb synth pop album with Dusty Springfield featured on one track, I wouldn't have thought of but maybe should have – A

8. The Beatles – Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967) –  No, no, no Revolver is the album to beat- A

9. U2 – The Joshua Tree (1987) – Overcooked pomp and circumstance – B-

10. Queen – A Night At The Opera (1975) – Stands up very very well. Indeed, it may have improved with age – A
