Bayside, Independent Covers

rocknyc darlings Bayside have bailed out on their record company and have taken the whole thing DIY.   The Queens, NY guys are currently in Connecticut (hollah!) recording a new album of covers.  YES!  I love covers and this band doing tunes originally performed by Billy Joel, Elvis Costello, Del Shannon, Van Morrison, and The Ronettes, will be a major event.

The band has its own internet radio show “Gunshoe” and the album will be released on their self funded label “Gunshoe Records”.  The departure from Wind Up Records has was not well publicized, nor were the details of the move.  They are in process of finalizing a deal with another label.  Wonder who that will be.

We spoke with Anthony Raneri last year and were greatly impressed with his insight and openness about the bands direction.  He said of the new release:
“We are locking in a new label right now and intend to start writing a new album in January. However we wanted to put out something to tide over our fans until we can deliver another album. We have become known for doing cover songs during our live shows and doing a covers EP is a blast for us. However these aren’t standard covers that people in our scene would think that we would do. These are songs that we grew up on and would love to share the influence to a new generation who may not know them.”

You can find out for yourself on October 23rd.

They are also currently touring with Taking Back Sunday- we will check them out in Boston.
