But rock nyc isn't a particularly political website. Rather, I am not a very political guy. The dream of the US is it doesn't much matter who runs the country, all they can do is keep the engine running smoothly. US Presidents should be like Meineke Mufflers.
I think President Obama's greatest achievement is in managing the country for four years without a major crises. Oh sure, things are bad, and the economy might sink his re-election. But there is no "I did not have sexual relationships with that woman" no war in Afghanistan or Iraq. He has not been asleep at the wheel. Obama has worked hard and while he hasn't achieved much, he has achieved enough.
He is a little like the Beyonce of politics, just goes about his business and does what he should do.
Obama was particularly gifted at Foreign Policy. It is hard to remember now, but Dubya got re-elected SPECIFICALLY BECAUSE of foreign policy. Barack got the US out of Iraq, figured out the best way to keep Freedom fighters (terrorists: pick your side) was by killing em with drones, and nailed Public Enemy # 1. And then he did something smarter. He convinced Arab Street he was pro Arab while giving the Israelis everything they wanted. Incidentally, much like Begin, Netanyahu is a horrible guy. In the end, Barack was as close to an isolationist as he could be. With a country facing bankruptcy, he had no option but to abdicate the US long held moral dictatorship for the world. Let somebody else handle it for a change.
Barack's biggest bugaboo was throwing money at the economy but very very badly. If you are gonna put trillions into the public sector, the unemployment should pike upwards. This is his biggest problem and this is what might topple him. Healthcare? That depends on the next four years but he did what he could.
Obama should have governed a bit more to the middle (like Clinton and Blair in the UK) and kinda blew a two year honeymoon.
Musically, Obama has been one of our greats. Indeed, culturally he has been very impressive. From Dylan to BB King, to singing Al Green songs, to inviting A.H. Rahman and Falu to the White House, to buddying up with Jigga, the man knows from music.
Obama hasn't been a great President hard as he has tried. he has been a good President…
