he Sierre Leone based crew sound like reggae with some African rhythms thrown in and on “Wonderful” they are a dream pop group singing over a finger picked bass lick which is just so lovely it makes me beam.
It is an odd little song, Baja somewhere between singing lovers rock and rappin over the acoustic track (recorded live). “It’s a wonderful time and this is the time you should be mine…” as sweet and joyous as new love.
Incidentally, Sierra Leone has been ravished by civil war essentially since they gained their freedom.
Why?
Because they are heavy in minerals, in diamonds.
They are playing a free concert on City Winery on August 10th. Highly highly recommended.
