Back To The Zoo: Electric Zoo Day 2, Sunday September 5th, 2010 by Woody Fuller

Thank you Helen!  I owe you one, big time. Thanks to the recommendation of Helen Bach, I made sure to be at Mobys live DJ set. I thought, what can this short bald guy who plays down tempo ambient electronica, possible have for all us at the Zoo.
In fact, he had exactly what we all needed; some big, jammin tunes. It was incredible, and got the dance party started out great.
“I had no idea Moby was soo amazing!” I said to my friend Hannah Biggie, “Soooooo siiick!!” was all she could muster back at me. Yes Biggie, so sick, soooo sick.
After creating a free for all raging dance party for 1.5 hrs, Moby left the stage, but not our hearts.

Boys Noize came to the stage, and pushed the bar, set by Moby, higher into the air by the middle of his set. Moby was top 3 of the day, as was Boys Noize. The jams he was pumping into our bodies, was like non that I have had the experience of being pumped with.

Jessica, whom I meet on my 1:15am bus ride back to DC, wanted to add that she, “wished he played more of his remixes, and originals,” she did leave a bit early cause I defiantly recall many remixes, jam packed with his originals.

What festival is complete without some kick ass art. Field trip anyone?

Got to the end of Diplo’s set, the better half of Major Lazer, he did some songs off his La Roux mashup, “Going in for the kill” was incredible. Wow! Diplo killed it, still one of my favorite DJs.
I know I already said this yesterday regarding The Chemical Brothers, however, the Boys Noize set tonight, is for the WMHOF, ( Woody’s music hall of fame), and, joining the Chemical bros, was def a top 5 show that I have ever seen live. Big Hova is on this list, maybe twice. Don’t hate, I just love the jigga man. Boys Noize and Moby both got thrown into top tier convo between me, myself, and I; Boys Noize for sure, Moby top 10.
Got in 15-20 minute dose of Bassnectar, big fan, he rocks, however, we raged together already at Allgood and Bisco, and he is coming to Wilmington on Sept 21, already got a ticket. Bass thumping, woomp woomp, you know the dealio. Time for Steve Aoki.

If you look through the smoke and lights, you can make him out. I wasn’t even that far back.

Aoki! This guy knows how to control a crowd. He did ‘Warp’ once and gave us two extra reprises. He went mad, so we followed suite, that tent was getting down harder then anywhere else at the zoo. Swan-style stage dive off his equipment table into the crowd had everyone with their hands in the air. Great move by him, as the whole crowd got more and more compressed, getting as close as possible to the man we were all praising, up on his DJ alter.
Cudi’s “pursuit of happiness” holy bejesus, outa this world. I’d been waiting for that moment since THE first time I heard the song. Genius.
Not once but twice, did we get sprayed with a bottle of Dom Perignon, thanks Steve, what a baller.
And in conclusion, jumpin back into the crowd to scream the words to The Beatroots ‘Warp’.
Steve Aoki left me feeling 150% satisfied with my decision to leave my friends at Bassnectar and venture into his tent. But c’mon Zoo, Bassnectar, Steve Aoki, and Armin van Buuren all at the same time. WFT DUDES? I saw 15 of Armin’s set, what a freakin awesome light show he had.
Bottom line Steve Aoki was the right move, and he ended with a bang, a very big bang, like creation of the earth status, Big Bang.
Zooo, that was so much fun, I had the best time ever! Everyone rocked, Randalls Island left me so dirty, the single downside. Dirt under finger nails, on my face, shoes destroyed, I even had a dirt milk mustache, can you believe that?
My entire body aches, elbows from throwing my hands in the air like a true player, knees from being forced to jump as high as humanly possible from Aoki and Boys Noize, and neck from not sitting and therefore dancing and bobbing my dome for 20 hrs over the past two days. I’m not the best dancer to lace em up, but I’ll tell you what, I get a big fucking A+ for effort.
No energy for after parties, and you shouldnt have any, if you did your day right; which I did.
Same time next year? I WILL see you there.
Sucks for whoever is cleaning up that zoo cage.
It’s 3am, I’m on the bus back to DC to catch a ride back to NC, I can’t sleep. This is most likely do to the fact that the Pandora station ‘techno’ has been bumping in my brain since the las
t set ended. I couldn’t be happier
