Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti just released a new record. ‘Mature Themes’, packaged with a new lawsuit by their ex-drummer, but also a new video for their single ‘Only In My Dreams’.
In the video, Ariel Pink actually tries (and succeeds) to get every single girl he meets after being dumped by the first one! It may be the dirty look under the pink bangs, but I am not sure what they all could find in him. There is even one of these groupie-girls jumping on stage during a concert, Bruce Springsteen-Dancing-In-The-Dark-style,…it's possible as long as it's only in his dreams. All this funny crazy romance makes you forget about the music, which turns around their usual lo-fi poppy sound with dreamy vocals, as detached as all the relationships the guy pretends to engage into during the 3-minute video.
Video director Travis Peterson said to Under the Radar Magazine that ‘some people dream in black and white, some in color, and some people dream only in sound. Ariel Pink dreams in VHS’,… yeah, may be in VHS, but it is also kind of perverse, or probably every man’s fantasy.
But when you know that Geneva Jacuzzi, Ariel Pink’s ex-girlfriend of eight years, appears in the opening shot and at the end, this makes the video closer to a personal confession.
