This was widely reported, Arcade Fire’s recording studio is actually a church located in Farnham, Quebec,.. or rather was, as the Canadian band wants to sell it: Picture this, the church where Arcade Fire recorded their two last famous albums ‘Neon Bible’ and ‘The Suburbs’, can be yours for just $325,000, in Canadian dollars which is a relief.
It looks very cute and fuzzy, and the listing describes it as a ‘charming church which housed a small concert hall, followed by a recording studio also offering accommodation. Its architecture makes it a perfect location for an artist's studio, a place of worship, a cultural, community or other organization. Offer here a unique setting to your project!’
It is also quite cozy and large, with an intact nave, a kitchen and dining room adjoining the nave, a mezzanine, a full height renovated basement with 3 bedrooms, a common room, 2 bathrooms, a laundry room, a storage room and a mechanical room, and it comes with a large lot surrounded by trees and greenery, at walking distance to main road, shops and schools… but I am starting to sound like a real estate agent.
The band actually tweeted about the listing on Friday morning, and according to Consequence of Sound, the band moved to another church, so they are not given up on this idea that environment influences creation. One last detail you should know if you’re interested by buying the church: it needs a new roof!
