Apple And Swift: Two Corporations And Nothing to Do With Me

taylor-swift

When I first wrote about Taylor Swift seven years ago or so, I felt like I was being protective of a kid who people weren’t hearing right, and I don’t feel anything like that anymore. Now, I feel as though I am watching a woman (ho has nothing at all to do with me or indeed 99.99% of the world I live in) from as far a distance as you can possibly get.

That’s alright with me; it is about music not lifestyle.

However, hearing all the trumpets for Taylor forcing Apple to pay royalties on their three month freemium on the streaming platform, excuse me if I shrug and say whoop-dee-doo, what’s in it for me? I can’t see any of Swift’s battles with streaming service is even vaguely helping me (or her fans) in the slightest. As my friend Marc Richard noted, the whole point of her, of Taylor in 2015, is “fuck you, pay me”.

It is all a little piggy in the troughs, all of them are greedy sleaze balls, and my feeling is that as big a fan as I am of her music , I see nothing of the Joan Of Arc about her, and am personally sick of the holier than thou attitude. Really, when did Swift invent penicillin? Did I miss that meeting?  All she does is demand money, suddenly it is her greatest gift.

I have zero love for Apple, and if Taylor wants to send em to the woodshed, what do I care? But there is this school marm  portion to her, in some bizarre way she seems to think what she is doing is for mankind and it isn’t. It isn’t even for her fellow artists. It has zero to do with her fans.

Really, Kid Rock might be a red neck stinker, but his affordable tickets was a wonderful thing, meanwhile Taylor is wrapping up Christmas gifts for a handful of fans. My bullshit detector is so far off the charts it isn’t even funny.

This is a no win for Swift but it has been ever since she became a superstar. 1989 was my second favorite album of 2015, the meaning is in the music, but the PR is just rancid proto-US capitalism and the game of thrones. There is nobody to root for. When Taylor responds to  a photographer ‘s claim she held back rights on the pictures that were taken, she said this:

“‘The standard photography agreement has been misrepresented in that it clearly states that any photographer shooting The 1989 World Tour has the opportunity for further use of said photographs with management’s approval.

Another distinct misrepresentation is the claim that the copyright of the photographs will be with anyone other than the photographer – this agreement does not transfer copyright away from the photographer.

‘Every artist has the right to and should protect the use of their name and likeness.’

Get the fuck out of here, since when? Swift is a public figure, she has no such right. This was just petty fucking bullshit, dripping every last red cent. Ugh. How did she become so horrible so fast?

I don’t get it, how is this worth ruining all the good faith and love the public has for you for a few dollars more. Nobody buys the likeness crap, you’re at a concert, what?  are you afraid they are gonna use your pictures on an ISIS recruitment???
