What a nice guy that Andy Grammer is. The young popstar with a hit single on the "A Dolphin's Tail" Soundtrack, a support slot on the Colbie Caillat tour and friends like Taylor, is in a prolonged state of shock.
"A year ago I was playing on the Malibu Promenade," he explained from the stage, "I would pop pop pop" he human beat boxes, "to get people's attention. And then I'd play them this…" And he launches into "Lunatic".
Grammer is local talent who left for So Cal and broke big. And he takes nothing for granted as he moves from guitar to keyboards with his three piece band. He is the latest in a long line of easy going, kinda cool summer in the sun with a wift of pot in the air boys. Like Patron Saint Jack Johnson, Jason Mraz, Gavin McGraw… it is an acquired taste and I don't have much of a taste for it.
Not for Andy either. but he is absolutely a sunny faced charmer, at ease in his skin, funny, self-deprecatiing and funny whether claiming Jay-Z and Alicia Keys owe him royalties when he throws in a verse from "Empire State Of Mind" in his own "The Pocket" or playing album tracks "Fine By Me" and "Miss Me" off his self titled debut.
Or getting a full throated singalong from the audience to "Keep Your Head Up" , with us giving it the "ooh ooohs" and the "eeeh eeeehs".
Mark's happiness is contagious and during intermission he is in the lobby posing with girls and making friends with all. Just very easy going.
I liked him. He can be my token beach boy 2011.
