Amanda Palmer Covers Nirvana's "Polly", Reviewed

Amanda Palmer the dark cabaret songstress who never fails to confuse has just released a video of her cover of Nirvana's song "Polly".

The story of the song according to reports, "Kurt Cobain originally wrote the song following an article he read about the abduction, torture, and rape of a 14-year old girl at the hands of Gerald Arthur Friend in 1987. Friend reportedly picked up the unsuspecting girl at a rock show in Tacoma, WA, only to handcuff her as she attempted to exit his car. Holding her at knifepoint, he took her to his mobile home, and proceeded to torture and rape her. Fortunately, the girl managed to escape when Friend took her for a drive and stopped at a gas station. Friend was subsequently arrested and charged for his sickening crime."

Palmer and her new accompaniment band Grand Theft Orchestra, take this classic song and showcase it in an instigram tinted video. Disturbing yet visually appealing.

I have always found Palmer to be a bit of a Queen of The Hip, as much as I admire and love her work, she irks me in her self righteousness.  This has caused me a bit of hate and love mentality when it comes to her.  So I am on the fence about this offering.

I do love the audio version of the song, the toy piano is haunting (she uses that like a boss- just listen to it in "Coin Operated Boy") but the video 'SURPRISE'! has Palmer as the Saviour…hmmm.
