Lessee here we’re all excited because although the Beastie Boys had to pull from being the maining attraction they got Jay-Z Big news? If you’re in Monterey maybe, if you’re in NYC and wanted to see Jay-Z it woulda been tough to miss him. With Lil Wayne at Izod, Mary J. at MSG to mention two sightings in the past year alone.
Coldplay or Yeah yeah Yeahs? MGMT when they’re not opening for Beck. Vampire Weekend? Echo at Radio City, Lykke Li at Highline… on and on and on. Who wants to take a ferry to NJ to sit fifty miles away to see a bunch of bands eyou could have seen any time you felt like it.
In all my years I’ve seen precisely two festivals I haven’t wanted to slit my wrists to. “Vans Warped” at Randall’s Island because they had a ton of teen punk bands I’d never heard of (and The Vandals: a great, great little know band I heard for the first time there) and the Beastie Boy’s Tibet Festival because they had two stages next to each, bands played short sets (Radiohead did an acoustic set, Noel gallagher a solo set) and set up on one stage while they played on the other. No money in it unless the bands are playing for free of course.
Otherwise, what a fucking hell. THis is NYC if there isn’t a topless bar or an all night deli within a five block radius of the room the band is playing we ain’t going.
