Alesana Webster Theater Friday February 11, 2011 Hartford CT

Remember when you were a kid and you had this awesome friend, the coolest kid you ever knew? That cool amazing kid with the parents who sucked?
He could never come over cuz he had home work or his aunt was visiting or he had to mow the lawn but when you were with him it was the time of your life?

That is Alesana. The coolest most amazing band on Earth, with the biggest douche bag parents of all time. So screw their handlers and lets talk about them

Friday night Alesana took stage in shirt and ties and ripped the roof off of the Webster Theater. Never a shy band the head bang running man was the dance of the night. Alternating vocals of Dennis Lee and Shawn Milke were no Sonny and Cher, but angry brothers in unified pitch.

Performing  ‘The Thespian’, “To Be Scared by An Owl”,and ‘Curse of The Vigin Canvas’ among others. They kept the crowd alive and they were very alive. Let me tell you that venue was oversold beyond belief. If we had not scouted out the location we had I would have never survived and I would most likely be in jail for assault on one of the arrogant upstarts in the crowd (who I’m pretty sure were there for Motionless in White).

Dennis Lee and his wild eyed mad man antics and Shawns sexually charged hip grinds are the perfect contrast offering something for the girls and something for the boys. When Lee full thrusts his microphone in his mouth leaving only the stem exposed, a side stage Craig Mabbit gives the ‘what the fuck’ hand gesture until it hits Lee that his antics just simulated fellatio. Falling to the ground in hysterics the rest of the band continue on like the classroom clown just did it again. Holding back laughter and forging forward they allowed you into their world of Jackass style fun. Contagious and endearing for anyone paying attention.

I am always amazed at the euphoria I feel after an Alesana show, again this is a science thing we need to turn to Alyson for rational on, but after their set I’m left in awe of live music. I have seen them now six times. Every time I am blown away and wish they’re set never would end. I’m not so much a recorded fan. Rarely will they play in my headphones but live, I would rather die then miss them live. Trust me I want to dislike them for the politics of it but I cant. I’m far too honest to pretend that this band is the most underrated hardcore band of all time. It pisses me off but it also still allows me to see them in a small venue once the proverbial cat is out of the bag (which could well never happen under current management) they’ll be stadium heroes and then what?

It becomes a selfish issue. I like the intimacy but I also want them taken ‘seriously’. You should be hearing them on the radio. You should be seeing them in arenas. Hell if Korn and A7X can fill it, and they suck, Alesana should be there to prove the genre is more than alive and well its kicking ass and taking names.
