I would be amiss if I didn’t mention The Agnostic Front and their latest adventures. Pillars of the hardcore community in NYC I remember when they were young enough to play this sort of music with teen aged angst.
Now? Well, its bitter old men. I’m no spring chicken but lets leave the hardcore to the kids. Recorded? OK perhaps. They have updated their sound a bit but really it just wont work live. Its your embarrassing dad fixing the car in the driveway cranking old punk. Just doesn’t work. This isn’t going to win them notoriety. It’ll get them in the nostalgia circuit with Bad Religion perhaps but I have said it before and I will say it again there are genre that dont age well- this is one of them.
The new song sounds quite dated. It sounds as if they want it to be 1982 again, but then again who doesn’t?
Its not. Its 2011 and hardcore is alive and well and being maintained just fine. We cannot go back, we shouldn’t go back. Doing so makes us a parody.
