I know you think it should be Neil Young but my feeling is John Newman is gonna be brilliant on Thursday at Bowery Ballroom. Completely sold out of course, but that’s because everybody is ready for the new soul rebel who has fronted a couple of Rudimental’s best song and whose own album is about to release Stateside.
Monday – Carnegie Hall – Neil Young – First night of four and this is the one I’ll be going to, it is a benefit for “Honor The Treaties”, a charity in support of native Canadians. Solo sets, it might be a night mixing covers with originals a la Phil Ochs in 1970 (at Farm Aid this year he covered Dylan, Bowie and more) or it might fall back on After The Gold Rush, the album Young was pushing when he played there in 1971.
Wednesday – Lael Summer – The Cutting Room – Our good friends at True Groove are coming out in support of Lael’s terrific new soul album Burden To Bear. Any chance to catch the Tomas Doncker Band, who will be playing with her, must be taken.
Sunday – Jay Z Magna Carta Tour – Barclay Center – The album was a bit of a dog, though it had moments, on stage if he is half as good as he was at Yankee Stadium, be able to bring it no problem.
