Tomas Doncker claims Buddy Guy is vastly superior live than he is on record and while I might not say vastly, I tend to agree that the great blues guitarist is something unreal live and should be seen at any price. So go check Buddy out Thursday night at BB Kings.
Monday – Lita Ford – Iridium – Lita goes jazz??? Well, she is performing with the Les Paul trio!
Tuesday – Nazareth – BB King’s – Early heavy metalers wrote a template of high vocals, low concepts still in vogue today!
Wednesday – J-Roddy Walston And The Business – Mercury Lounge – I saw em open for the Hold Steady and this hard rocking guys brought the house down
Wednesday – Courtney Love – Warsaw – I used to believe that whatever her problems might have been, she was awesome live. But the last Hole tour was a huge bore and so she needs to make up a lot of ground. But will she?
Thursday – Counting Crows – Hammerstein Ballroom – Sure, they suck on record but on stage they can be real special. With the Wallflowers.
Thursday – Jason Bonham – Jones Beach – Well, since the Zep won’t play together
Thursday – Peter Frampton – Beacon Theater – With Robert Cray so it should be different.
Thursday – The Del Lords – Bowery Electric – Sporting one of the best albums of the year, I am going to see Buddy Guy and hoping to rush down to the Bowery afterwards and check these guys out
Friday – One Direction – Jones Beach – Really good on stage but if you don’t have a ticket give up on it
Friday – Wayne Shorter – Town Hall – The new album by the jazz giant is very very good.
Saturday – Kid Rock – PNC – Sure he was better when he didn’t have a cause, still he puts his money where his mouth is ith super cheap tickets.
Saturday – Bruno Mars – Barclay Center – A busy night! First Bruno Mars
Saturday – Jahn Xavier And the Bowerytones – And then X!
Saturday – Hugh Masekala – Iridium – Hugely influential jazz fusion man with a horn.
Sunday – X Respects: The X Ray Specs Tribute Show – the Studio At Webster Hall – Superb idea, well done
