It's been a long time since we have chatted about Bryce. Two interviews and maybe 3 live reviews later here we are. Bryce unplugged. The single "Soldiers" from his new album Life Will Write The Words.
I am unsure why he sounds like Tracy Chapman. I am unsure why if I didn't look at the screen it felt like country night on American Idol. I can tell you this much, he is much better seen than heard. I don't mean in an attractive way (though he is not unattractive) but rather in a musical way. See, Bryces voice has little definition- he literally sounds like every other white male American. It is the facial expressions and movement that turn this song from talent show goo to an actually interesting song.
The topic of 'Solider's is beneath Avary- I mean the ol' tug at the heartstring 'Merica stuff could be a nod to his Southern boy roots but regardless it is a well done song. This is pop radio worthy but not exactly 'alt'. Was Bryce and Rocket Summer ever 'alternative', I'd say no, just unknown.
Perhaps this will appeal to the masses
