A New Concept: Making Music Impossible To Buy As Prince Drops HITNRUN On Tidal

1035x1035-256903

I have no problem with  Prince making his music impossible to stream on line except where he is getting the sort of loyalties he wants  like on Tidal (though given the thud of his last, I dunno, 20 albums, I don’t see why), and given his fights with Warner Brothers in the late 80s over who owns Prince’s actual music, you can hardly blame him for being completely paranoid.

However, his fans are certainly not the problem, and with the Tidal deal Prince’s  new album HITNRUN, has been released exclusively on Tidal and if you don’t wanna rent the sucker how can you buy it? Answer, you can’t. Perhaps if it was the new Taylor Swift you curse and subscribe but I can see no reason why I should pony up ten bucks for another hour of extended funk jamz.

Really, how insulting can you get making your latest album unavailable for sale? If I could , I’d buy it for ten bucks, I’d buy it for twenty bucks if I had to, but I won’t RENT IT for ten bucks. What does Prince think this will do? It won’t move the Tidal needle an inch, nobody on earth is gonna care enough about a new Prince album, his first since the double eleven months ago: “Art Official Age debuted at number five on the Billboard 200 and sold 51,000 copies in its first week. In its second week of sales, the album dropped to number 22 on the chart, selling 15,000 copies, bringing the total to 66,000 copies.”

The world is, and I am, sick of these second rate albums, and if respect for his work in the 80s and to a lesser extend the 90s, keeps me listening, it doesn’t keep me obsessing by any stretch of the language.

This was a typical tone deaf move by a guy who really needs to relax.

It doesn’t sound like Prince is the guy who really needs to relax.

And for the record, you’re not “renting” Prince’s music. You can download music from Tidal to your device(s) so that you don’t have to stream it and can listen to it at any time.
