Who wants to hear more from Conor Oberst’s post hardcore band Desaparecidos? They have just released two new tracks, riotous and in-your-face like the previous ones who were directed at racist guy Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
The first one, called ‘The Left is Right’ is a triumphant loud-bombastic song that will explode in front of you with Oberst’s emo-angry vocals, passionately praising the efforts of the Occupy Movement. Damned, he even thinks it’s okay ‘to die to save the 99’ (percent)!
Meanwhile, ‘Anonymous’ has all guitars on alert followed by crashing-pounding drums but this same idea of triumphant over oppression, especially through this power-chorus with Conor screaming in a raucous voice ‘You can’t stop us, we are Anonymous/Expect us, we are Anonymous’… it’s a revolution in the making, and of course a shout out to the underground anarchist hacktivist group of the same name.
Desaparecidos had actually performed these songs live a few months ago at different shows, but they now feature on this new self-released seven inch single… is it too much? In the sense, is it too obviously political? ‘The Left is Right’… Can you be more direct than this? Desaparecidos sure doesn’t use any nuances for these new ones and I wonder whether art is really efficient when the meaning jumps at your face so vividly, when there is no mystery left… but, I know, that's the point of Desaparecido, I should go listen to Bright Eyes for the cryptic meanings.
