Hear Ye: What rock nyc Is Listening To -2-2-13

1. We The Common – Thao And The Get Down Stay Down – Playful stuff from a firm indie fave with a cross folkie flavor and a song that seems built to cross pop in a world where a hey ho hook is king. Thao claims Lilith Fair as an influence so I docked her a notch- Grade: B-

2. Gradual Return – Trixie Whitley – Single of the year… so far! – Grade: A

3. I Don't See You Laughing Now – Marshall Crenshaw – A orgeous outro saves it from just another great Crenshaw song – Grade: A

4.The One You Chose – Kris Kristofferson – Impressive croaking – Grade: B+

5.Looking Back – The Spencer Davis Group – Fab! – Grade: A

6.Upholstery – The Beach Bums – And you know him, already on probation – Grade: A

7. Ashes To Ashes (Tailspins) – The Kingsbury Manx – Straight up American folk with a rare nod to Simon And garfunkle – Grade: A-

8. Strong Blood – trixie Whitley – Off the Rockwood EP and you can hear why she didn't put it on Fourth Corner… the album would've capsized – Grade: A

9. Broken English – Marianne Faithful – Still arresting post-feminish hard rock – Grade: A+

10. Blue Hawaii – Elvis Presley – I wanna be Elvis in bluuuueeeee hawaaaiiiiii
