Greta Garbo's Record Collection

American movie director you probably know her best for "Grace Of My Heart" -the Carole King fictional bio Elvis Costello and Burt Bacharah wrote "God Give Me Strength" for, bid on the great glamorous "Grand Hotel star movie star Greta Garbo's record collection. 50 vinyl albums. And won!!!

How cool can one woman be?

Well, even cooler than that, she started a blog and is gonna review each and every album, and it should be a must reading. Alison wrote: "I now own Greta Garbo’s Beatles records, her twist records (she was a big fan of the dance craze and even ventured out to the Peppermint Lounge to see it for herself on the dancefloor), her Linda Ronstadt records, and mind blowingly — her own copy of Gene Clark’s “No Other”.

Julien Auction describe the albums as follows: "An assortment of approximately 47 rock and pop albums including several from The Beatles, Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, Bing Crosby, Linda Ronstadt, and Elton John. Also includes hit compilations and various dance albums. Among the dance albums are songs from the twist craze of 1960-61. Greta Garbo was pictured in the tabloids at that time dancing the twist at the Peppermint Lounge in New York City"

Julien Auction's expected to get between $200 – $400 for the collection but the winning bid was $869. Greta Garbo's Classical albums went for 640., Jazz albums for  $768.00. The jazz albums: "A collection of approximately 36 jazz albums, including a multi-volume Al Jolson, Chuck Mangione, Charlie Byrd, a copy of Earl Hines Plays George Gershwin , and several David Sanborn albums." I noted a John Coltrane album as well!

And a look at the rock and pop sleeves finds Professor Longhair no doubt.!

Alison Anders is a gifted woman and I for one can't wait to hear her take on No Other.
