Rolling Stone magazine announced it, the LA Times announced it, everybody jumped on the rumor this last Friday…The Rolling Stones iPhone application showed up a bunch of dates on the tour section, and among them, one on April 12th in Indio CA: this was enough to start the rumor that the Stones were headlining Coachella next year.
Of course, the date was taken down almost immediately, but the leak was already out, and re-tweeted everywhere. Now, people really want to believe it’s true, after all they read it on their iPhone! But was it an accident? Did they intend to reveal this info? Probably not, since it’s gone now, plus the Coachella dates are never revealed before January.
But thanks to @justinluey – who posted this picture on Twitter – we have the proof it wasn’t a collective illusion. And it would totally make sense, the Stones just had their 50-year anniversary celebration all over the east coast and haven’t played any dates on the west coast,… plus there was already a rumor they were playing Coachella last year and it didn’t happen. The Coachella board is acting as if it was a done deal, and I guess we will know for sure soon. If it's true, it’s another big coup for Goldenvoice!
The only thing that sounds bizarre is that Coachella is now on two weekends and there was only one date shown, which means the Stones would only play weekend #1 and not #2? And on a Friday night? Weird!
