Ahh there they are, the pop boys Rocky Loves Emily. It seems forever ago that we sat down with the band in freezing and leaking 'green room' of The Space in Hamden CT to have a chat about the boys latest adventures. They fell a bit quiet and as for touring never seemed to make it to our area enough for them to chart their progress.
So now what falls in my lap? A genuine new video for "Oil & Water",and well, fella's whatsup?
A slow twang offering in a silly video where the band is playing in odd places with no wires. Well I suppose there is creative license but was this the best investment? The song is lovely but certainly not a crowd grabber. The vocals seem to be a karaoke Cris Drew and that I cannot stand for. Brandon Ellis has a fantastic voice and why he chose to mimic here is beyond me. Are the guys giving up?
This song is from their Tooth and Nail Records release of April 2012 LP 'Secrets Don't Make Friends', releasing a new video of a semi ballad on an album that is nearly a year old is a very questionable career move. There is a great sing along of BFF's in the basement at the end but the video shows a bunch of bored kids in a rec room. Its as if they weren't even aware that the sound wasn't matching up with the visual in that particular scene. That's one big rowdy crowd sound for a bunch of guys who look amazingly uncomfortable.
This being said the video is a bag of garbage. The song is fantastic. The two should never have met.
