Mick Jagger sorta thinks you’re an idiot.
The Stones tickets cost a fortune and he is here to tell you that it’s not a rip off. Jagger explains that it’s the secondary ticket market has a lot to do with it as well as the fact that there are so few shows.
Jagger told Billboard “You might say, ‘the tickets are too expensive.’ Well, it’s a very expensive show to put on, just four shows – because normally you do a hundred shows and you’d have the same expenses.”
He adds: “Most of the tickets go for a higher price than we’ve sold them for, so you can see the market is there. We don’t participate in that profit. If a ticket costs £250 and goes for £1000, I want to point out that we don’t get that difference.”
That line kills me. “I want to point out we don’t get that difference.’. Perhaps the most out of touch statement I’ve heard in a long time. Do any of you really think the band is getting the difference if you buy from Stub Hub or others? If you do then you are in fact an idiot . Ticket resellers resell for profit- and that’s that.
Jagger is against the reseller though, “I don’t think it should be legal,” he says. “There has to be a better way of doing it. But we’re living with the way the system functions. We can’t, in four shows, change the whole ticketing system.”
Oh did we forget to mention that rocknyc will be at the December 13 show in New Jersey? Yeah well we will. Rumor has it these shows are ‘stripped down’ with no additional musicians joining the original four.
Keith Richards stated, “Charlie Watts said, ‘We should have the stripped-down thing.’ I said, ‘Charlie, you realize how much pressure that puts on the guitar lineup?’
“But at the same time, it’s a challenge – and he’s right. You want the blues band, the rock’n'roll, stripped down? You’re going to get it. It’s going to be fun.”
Will Billy Wyman and Mick Taylor show? Hmm stay tuned.
