Wow, I didn't expect to like this at all. Another art school Amanda 'Fucking' Palmer video- yet I did. Going in quite cynical with the bla bla bla of hipsters and drag queens I was once again back on my heels ready to hurl insults down about her. Yet I really cant.
There are moments to eye roll in this video. Ok, she doesn't shave her armpits, ok she enjoys being nude but similar to the character in the video who is reluctant (at first) to go to Amanda's show, by the end, you cant help but love her (or end up in bed with her). The song 'Do it With A Rockstar" is one of the best on her latest album. Starting rather lazily and erupting into a straight up rock tune. A fist pumping sing along is accompanied here by sausage eating, girl on girl flashes and some really beautiful drag queens.
Chock full of 'inside jokes' and bits only fans will 'get' the song wont play well to middle America unless you've been a fan or read our reviews here. Amanda Palmer is dynamic and beautiful in this video and although I am sick of her boobs and fuzz I do find her beautiful in a very strong way.
And so it goes, my love hate relationship with Amanda Palmer continues. I'm not sure if I want to kill her or be her but one thing is for certain, she makes intelligent girl rock and suddenly I love glitter. She is the art girl we all aspire to be with just enough annoying qualities to prevent her fans from being gushy and simplistic. She makes you think, she is quite original and well. This video is really wonderfully entertaining.
