This girl has some organ, every time I hear a new Sharon Van Etten’s song I am amazed by her crystalline voice which may be what characterizes the most her songs, this wild and celestial animal she lets go reach the highest notes effortlessly, with jubilation and sadness, strangely mixing a sort of strength and vulnerability at the same time.
And this new demo for ‘Tell Me’ is like an open field for this ethereal beauty, floating and slowly ascending stronger and stronger over simple guitar chords; I have always thought there was something a little ‘ancient’ in her music, although difficult to exactly describe.
Sharon Van Etten is releasing a deluxe edition of her ‘Tramp’ album on November 13, and not only the new edition will feature demos for each track from the album, a self-portrait, liner notes including Sharon’s journal entries, but also the demo for the song ‘Tell Me’, that you can listen to below:
