I have read some conflicting reports about this story but one thing is sure, Jay-Z and Beyonce have lost their battle to trademark their daughter’s name, Blue Ivy.
The trouble was that a Boston event planning company, which had been operating since 2009, was already named Blue Ivy Events! According to Fox News Boston, the owner, Veronica Alexandra, won a legal battle against Jay-Z and Beyonce, meaning that the company can keep its name and the power couple has no legal rights to reserve it for the precious daughter.
But I was mentioning conflicting reports? Effectively, the Huffington Post wrote that Veronica Alexandra admitted she ‘highly respects’ both stars, adding:
‘I can’t be frustrated with something I think is going to bring me to produce and define my brand even more, which is financially exciting in itself and intellectually exciting as well. It’s like they caused me to create more opportunity for myself.’
And if you read this you almost wonder why she fought with them, but if you read Rolling Stone, you get a whole different song, since Veronica Alexandra reportedly told them:
‘I knew this was going to be a bittersweet roller coaster. If this wasn't going to work, I'd go after both of them. Like, 'Let’s do it!' In my mind I had some protective rights. There's no way by way of being a celebrity they should have entitlement [to the name]. Shame on them.’
Shame on them and she highly respects them? err, I wonder who is telling the truth there… Rolling Stone was even reporting that they had ‘plans to reserve their child's name for possible use as a brand name for a line of baby-related products, including carriages, diaper bags and baby cosmetics.’ Others claim it was to prevent anyone from using their baby’s name to make money, but seeing that Jay-Z had already commercialized his daughter in a song just a few days after she was born, I wouldn’t be surprised.
So, I am with this Veronica girl, shame, shame, shame on them! But they can’t do it now, so this reassured me a little bit,… after all, these two cannot pretend to own the whole world.
