Winner – Jack White – at Radio city Music was a lesson on the limits, and lack of limits, placed upon a rock superstar. With two slim downed, all lean, custom built flying machines of a set, White made his case as forcefully as he could, that he owned New York. A complete triumph. Of all the things I admired about the weekend performances, what I admired most might well have been its complete lack of humility. White did not bend to nyc opinion. He did what he did with an air of nonchalence that would have tettered into arrogance in a second, if only he wasn't so bloody good at it.Loser – Grizzlly Bear – I realize a cover of New York Magazine is big time publicity for a band with a new album to push. But is it that big? Is it so big that you want to open your band bank account and share your net worth with the world? There is something unseemly about it, and there is also something scary about it. Everyday in everywway we lose more of our privacy.
