Any video that starts out with Morrissey in the bathtub is an instant winner. I also like his little bath tray. How handy and well planned.
There are entire message boards dedicated to finding the meaning of this song. Was it about a girl obsessed with Morrissey? A man? Morrissey obsessed with someone? Was it a ‘good lay’ or a ‘bootleg’
The real question to you the peanut gallery is WHAT IS A SUEDEHEAD!? That was a subculture of skinheads when the hair is grown out a bit.
Now what the hell does that have to do with a good lay, a bootleg or a kid delivering mail as in this video)
From the opening strains to the yodel like vocals, Morrissey takes and softens some pretty harsh thoughts with the softness of his voice. Making his dismissal sound almost like a great regret.
Nah, he’s using the passive aggressive snarky he is infamous for. Whichever perspective you chose it’s simply a stalker song. As a stalker I can tell you this is quality stuff.
There is something contradictory about the beat and the lyrics on this one but in true Moze style it’s so vague that it can be interpreted in whichever way works best for you.
The voice is so beautiful and vulnerable that it’s almost as if what is being said is unimportant. The video is chock full of James Dean From the photos of ‘Fairmont, Indiana’ (Deans hometown) to the ‘Indian’ bike and the newspaper its Dean fan boy swoon all over the place. Leading me to believe that the song and the video are in no way related. Oh that “Le Petit Prince” or “The Little Prince” was James Deans favorite book and in 1988 when this film came out all the little punkers were diggin on that again. Antoine de Saint-Exupéry was a super hero for awhile.
Take a moment to laugh at Morrissey driving the tractor at 2:53,what the hell is he doing! The other what the hell moment is when he is randomly carrying a dog. Dude put him down.
I love this song, I love James Dean, I love Morrissey and I love that dog.
