Paper Bag Records vs. The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars

There is no doubt that cover songs make me happy. I’m not sure why rally but for the most part I like remakes more than originals.  I adore the “Punk Goes” series by Fearless Records simply for the fun of having an ‘alt’ band take on a pop tune.

But what about the no name taking on the legend?  Toronto based Paper Bag Records got some dang nerve doing just that.  The Rise and Fall Of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars is more of a classic than the works of Mozart.  Ziggy? Really, can anyone do it justice?

Yup.

The bands on Paper Bag are rather obscure.  You may have heard of one or two of them but not all nor will you.  These bands are those that fly under the radar but do a wonderful job on this album.

Perhaps in doing so it will pick your interest to check out some of their other works.

I thought at first it was blasphemous to do this but upon hearing it I am a bit impressed.  Takes a lot of salt to take on such a legendary album.  Paper Bag did a dang good and respectful job.  Download it for free here
