Tom Morello's Rock Anthem For The 99%

I wonder whether Paul Ryan will add this song to his playlist when he runs his fake marathon, after all the guy has said he was listening to Rage Against the Machine and pretended to have run a marathon in 2h when he actually did it in more than 4 hours,… what a loser.

Anyway, Tom Morello, Rise Against singer Tim McIlrath and System of a Down singer Serj Tankian have released a song anthem to help the 99%movement, since he declared to Rolling Stone that he thought it was missing a true rock anthem: 'It's our gift to the movement'.

'We Are the 99 Percent' was written just after last week anniversary performance, and it is available to stream exclusively on RollingStone.com, but will be available for free download on Morello and Tankian's Axis of Justice website tomorrow.

The track is super energizing, providing riffs very much straight from a RATM song; it’s a call to action, with a ‘arm the homeless’ vibe (Morello’s favorite guitar) with McIlrath screaming, ‘If you feel the wave crashing down/ Don't just sit there and drown/ Fight back’.

‘I wanted to do a huge riff-rock anthem’, Morello said to Rolling Stone, ‘It would feel like the excitement of the global Occupy Wall Street movement’. And Morello really believes that by focusing on 'grotesque global poverty and the growing inequality in our country’, the movement will be successful, adding ‘When is the last time when a Republican candidate for president has had his feet held to the fire because he's too rich?’

I am sure that many are going to criticize these rich rock stars who are pretending to be part of the 99%, but I will defend Morello on this, as he has supported numerous charities, has been part of the movement since the beginning and has played many times in the streets, participated to marches in NYC and LA. As a matter of fact he played the song last week in Foley Square with Jello Biafra and Tom Chapin. Watch it:
