Well then, isn't this a fun little retro pop? A remake of Abbas iconic tune slowed down and echo filled. Its not awful and it will make the hipsters squee with joy. Of course, The Vaccines are wonderful but why would they release a four song EP with 50% remake? Somewhat odd but its a good musical lesson for their 20 something fans.
Nick Lowe's "The Beast In Me" becomes a lullaby. Almost a self righteous ode to coffee houses. Granted Nick is not exactly rocking out in this tune but he brought more of a worldly sound to it. The Vaccines sound is similar to wearing your dads shoes. It comes across as a bit silly. They don't have enough street cred to pull off something like this.
They're best to stay with ABBA, cuz no one takes them seriously anyway. This E.P. is a free for fans til the next album for 'The Vaccines Come Of Age' in September. I mean this is thing is no way "Teenage Icon". Which by the way I love. It is more an attempt to keep their name in the press cuz everyone is all a buzz with Brit pop now that the holy hell Olympics are in the can.
I'm not fond of the acoustic Endeavour but it served a great purpose. It got The Vaccines back into rotation on my iPod so, that's a better purpose."Noorgard" is a good time, so there you have it. If you are a hardcore fan who think the band can do no wrong, then by all means stock up your internal memory with this snoozy freebie. Otherwise hang back until September, its not that far away.
