Last year was the year of the collapsing stage. At far too many events stages or scaffolding were crumbling, some with fatality some not but a tribute to the fact that we weren't taking enough care to ensure safety in our concert going venues. Summers shows are tricky they travel they're quick up and downs, shit happens, someone uses duct tape instead of a weld.. it happens.
But from these mechanical events we saw a change to more caution. Really if you're dropping a couple hundred bucks on a show the last thing you want is to get smacked in the head with some stage matter.Understandable really.
Now? Well its back to man on man fun. Stabbings. Swedish House Mafia announce their calling it quits and already on this farewell tour there have been to shankings, WTF? The Cro Mag reunion had an actual former band member wielding sharp steel. Who the hell goes to shows with knives and what the hell fat ass security guard with a 'staff' T-shirt isn't watching the door?!?
I am a grown ass woman, When I go to the HOB in Boston or the Chevy Theater in Hamden I know damn well I'm getting a full head to toe pat down. If I got to the Comcast some senior citizen is going to peek in my camera bag to make sure I don't have a bong or something. If I go to Toads or the Webster some 18 year old chick is going to cop a feel of my thighs and and that's that.
Show security? I can promise you I can get a knife into any gig without a metal detector. I also can promise you I never would cuz I am not going to shows to draw blood I'm going to hear music. That being said I don't want to get stabbed either. I expect to be banged into, stepped on, shoved maybe even hit, but stabbed?
Latest stabbing? A freakin Tenacious D show in Las Vegas. Two men got into a fight, one gets it in the leg ends up in the hospital. Are you kidding me? They're a comedy band. Some idiot felt so fired up by Jack Black that he went ginsu on a concert goer? That my friends is ridiculous.
Keep it up concert goers and the insurance for venues let alone the liable suits are gonna shut down shows quicker than boo. For fucks sake if you're going to stab someone do it in your neighborhood or an alley, don't ruin my good time.
