Scottish rockers Twin Atlantic are on Warped Tour this year. They're pretty interesting in the fact that they use their Scot accent to its extreme. In most cases it is very difficult to hear an accent in song. Think of Adele- did you ever hear even a twinge of Brit in those songs? Nope.
Twin Atlantic opts to showcase the interesting speak in their work and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Their first album 'Vivarium' caught me offguard but also provided some great tunes. "You're Turning In To John Wayne" far surpassed the single "Lightspeed" in my opinion but then again, I loved the lyric play and found "Lightspeed" to be uninspired.
The video for "Yes, I Was Drunk", couldn't be more disappointing. If you're going to have a quirky accent don't serve me a cliche' slo-mo video. We have all waited a couple years for new material so this seems an even more weak offering. Well bands are more than the sum of their video presence. The Buggles said 'video killed the radio star' but videos really dont do a thing now other than make it easy to hear a song without streaming in on Spotifiy (or the band site) or shelling out the buck on iTunes.
I'm hoping for more on their upcoming album. Please please don't let it be as flat lined as this tune. This single will be released on August 27th but why bother when its already out with video now? Most kids can rip the audio from Youtube anyway- sorta odd to the entire song rather than 'teaser' as commonly done.
Twin Atlantic will be at the Hartford CT stop of Warped Tour– I'll be there to see what's what. I'll keep ya posted.
