Well, exactly. If you label poison "poison do not eat" and somebody chooses to eat it, what business is it of the government?
The war against drugs (in the States at least) has caused much more trouble than legalization ever would have, but without it how would they keep all the black men jailed? As Mynabirds put it: numbers don't like and it is hard to claim yourself the freest society when you have the most citizens per capita incarcerated.
Rotten may not be right about everything but he is right about the Draconian drug laws. If you legalized and taxed drugs the way you do cigarettes, you could balance the budget and empty the jails.
