The person who invented Instagram was a genius. The person who publicized it is even more brilliant. Now we not only get to see what everyone eats, drinks and does in the haze of retro sepia we now have inspired vintage video.
About 20 years ago I was full out retro goddess. I looked acted and behaved as if it was 1953. It was cool and I liked the dresses. Now with that whole Zooey Deschanel 'quirky' girl bit- its run amuck and landed right here in Flo's new video. Shes on a cheeky West Coast holiday all pinup and glam.
Its actually really pretty and really well done and the song is very good. Reminds me of a bit of Siouxie and The Banshees thought that may only be due to the whisper effect.
Florence plus the Machine are very interesting to me. I wouldn't want to see them live but when I stumble upon them I pause to think of why I don't like them more. The chick vocal is a reason I suppose but I think more than that is there is an element missing that I simply cannot put my finger on. Shes missing the 'umph' that requires my fandom.
I cannot hate her or this video but really we have to unite and fight the Instagram haze. There are more people out there modifying their appearance with this 'app'. I suggest we invent and market Instagram contact lenses. See the whole world in a vintage tint, everything would be so much prettier. It really is brilliant as it turns every still life in to an artsy good time.
