Shifting Liars by Helen Bach

New to me this week is a 2 song release from Liars,

Liars is a three-piece American band consisting of Aaron Hemphill (percussion, guitar, synth), Julian Gross (drums) and Philippine-born Angus Andrew (vocals/guitar).

The cool thing about Liars is how they shift all over the place giving me that uncertainty and danger I so often crave in music

“Scissors” is a moaning chanting lull with HUGE smashing lifts out of nowhere. I adore the vocals and the mood changes so dramatically that this can be considered ‘expiremental’ but without the pretentious ness of other post punk bands.

“Covenant Hearts” on the other hand is completely different.

This to me is a bit too clove cigarette smoking hipster. OK OK .. and wear a hemp bag.

But the save here (again) the vocals. Lead singer Angus Andrews has a truly disturbing voice. Almost reminiscent of a psychedelia gone by. But what moves Liars from that whole trend is the drumming which is no holds barred bashing. I love it.

This is about as ‘artsy’ as I get. But I like it, and if your looking for something just a bit off the path, this could be a nice jaunt.
