A big name in the world of hip hop and R&B, Trey Songz has become famous for his signature soulfully crooning voice in songs like “Neighbors Know My Name” or “Yo Side of the Bed”. Even in his party song with Nicki Minaj, “Bottoms Up”, you can’t escape that voice. Now, Trey is showing it off again in one of his latest singles “Heart Attack”. And, just incase you can’t hear visualize the sort of love pains described in “Heart Attack”,Trey’s got a video for it.
Honestly I was a little confused by the video at first but it’s easy to see after watching it a few times what the plot of this music video really is. You see, in this story, Trey keeps arguing with his ladylove (played by Kelly Rowland). However, he keeps singing about how his heart hurts and how he loves her so much but how the pain in his heart is just like a heart attack.
With shots in the beginning and end of the video of Trey(shirtless) on a gurney with a defibrillator on his chest, one assumes that he’s been hurt and that this might explain why he knows what a heart attack feels like. Finally at the end of the video we see that, while arguing, Trey Songz and his lady love get in a car crash and are both in the hospital next to eachother.
I’d like to think that, with the soulful song, and the fighting couple and the accident, that as he was unconscious and legally dead,Trey Songz was thinking about all the fights he had with his girlfriend and he realized that he can’t let her go because the love he has for her is so strong it feels just like a heart attack.
The video is, admittedly, a little lame but the song is quite good. I think the video is just your typical dramatic R&B breakup/love song music video but at least it explains the song pretty well. It may not be winning any awards, but I’d give it a B.
