I really don’t know what to do with this New Sigur Rós ‘video featuring Shia LaBeouf’s penis… yeah there is full nudity, but it is not what you think, believe me it is so artsy-fancy-scratching-my-head-afterwards that naked bodies will be the last thing you will think about while watching this bizarro movie.
‘Fjögur Pianó’ is the last song on the Icelandic band’s last effort ‘Valtari’, and it is also the most stripped down, a desolated piano going on for almost 8 minutes, with a more intense climax towards the end… in a few words, it is not something to cheer you up, but it is quite typical of Sigur Rós’ usual soundscape.
However, when watching the video, I almost didn’t listen to the music, as there was too much uneasiness going on, and more bizarre metaphors than in an obscure Swedish movie.
Isn’t the director, Alam Har’el, taking herself a bit too seriously? Her characters move like they were auditioning for Black Swan or the Cirque du Soleil, depending on the scenes, and there is an overuse of the butterfly metaphor.
It is in fact the third installation of Sigur Rós Mystery Film Experiment, as the band gave a dozen filmmakers a modest budget to create whatever video they wanted for one of the tracks off ‘Valtari’.
Shia LaBeouf and Denna Thomsen play a couple who spent their time abusing the hell of each other, carving their bodies, having what it seems to be make-up sex and taking drugs as if it was lollipops, literally! There is slow motion in never-ending cycles of violence, it is really dark and depressing… give me more of Erykah Badu’s glittery ass anytime.
