So I'm sitting at Le Poisson Rouge waiting for the dB's on Friday night, when I get an alert from Songkick advising me one of my fave artists is gonna be playing in the area. And for once they're right, Earl Sweatshirt and more to the point, a solo Tyler The Creator at Best Buy. I didn't even check the date. It didn't matter. I would blow off any band for a solo set by Tyler.
So I got a tix for Best Buy on Thursday July 26th, 2012. $53 all included and worth every penny, right? I mean, Best Buy is just an added plus?
So I got home and it is the same night as the Frank Ocean gig at T5? Yup…
What the hell were they thinking of? There is no way I can make it to both, they have to overlap, they are both headliners and I am stuck with a must see concert I can't see. Not laughing, folks.
I am going with Tyler. Here is my reasoning.
1. Best Buy is a million times better room to catch a show than T4.
2. Raekwon is opening for Tyler.
3. Even with all that, if it was Frank vs Odd Future, I have already seen Odd Future earlier this year and I would have gone with Frank.
But it isn't, I want to see if Tyler can bring Goblin to life, I wanna see if he can pull off the serious intensity of his songs without the posse, without the teenage hi-jinx. And if he can, the sky is the limit for this giant of hip hop. Frank Ocean will just have to wait.
