Remember about Green Day’s adventure on Broadway? The American Idiot musical and all that nonsense? How can any band which pretends to define their sound by punk rock can imagine be credible after a show on Broadway? I don't know I haven't seen the show, but a punk Broadway show sounds like an oxymoron to me.
According to The LA Times, Green Day posted about 30 sec of a new song more than reminiscent of the Clash, this is how they describe it:
‘[the song] brings in bits of ‘This is Radio Clash’ as well as the Clash's ‘Magnificent Seven’. The former is heard in the staccato rhythm that opens the song, and the latter is heard in the way the Green Day song re-appropriates the Clash's bass-driven ‘Magnificent Seven’ melody.’
It is true that 30 seconds is not enough to have a good idea of a song, but after listening to this video it seems more than a pure coincidence to me. The problem is that the young kids will not even notice!
Green Day has been trying hard to sell a punk rock image despite of having repeatedly selling out,… these guys even performed with U2 on Monday Night Football in 2006 and appeared with Lindsay Lohan on Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards the same year! This is so punk rock! Actually I am not sure they have sold out, because was there even a time when they were punk? They were just a MTV tool to give the illusion punk can go mainstream. Anyway, their new plagiarism of the Clash will not save them.
Still according to the LA Times, Billie Joe Armstrong tweeted about a future ‘secret’ and free show in LA, during which the band will unveil their upcoming three albums – ‘¡Uno!,’ ‘¡Dos!’ and ‘¡Tre!’, whilst people will be able to bring their ‘own booze’!
We know too well that these supposed secret shows are nothing but secret but announced at the last minute in a intimate location, and free?.. this probably means impossible to get in! Unless it is bigger than expected?
