Ray Wylie Hubbard compared the vinyl Tonight's The Night to China White, advantage. If that isn't enough to get thee to MSG on November 27th, 2012, his new covers album with Crazy Horse is much, much better than I expected and while I haven't seen him in over a decade, all those pathetic political albums during the Bush years, I am ready to check him out again.
The hard thing with Young is he can certainly suck when he puts his mind to it. Like Prince in the 1990s, Young releases EVERYTHING and half, maybe three quarters of it, is terrible.
Plus, sometimes his jams meander before crashing and burning and he gets on stage late and plays late and by the time he shuts up and plays "Rust Never Sleeps" I've been asleep for half an hour, or left, or worse, I'm still there but so sick of the boring old fart, I wanna kick him.
I remember seeing Neil Young in 1991 at the same venue, circa the first Iraq war, with a yellow ribbon around a tree mid-stage. A stupendous performance and if Neil is hard that good, it should be worthwhile.
Plus, major bummer, the Buffalo Springfield tour never happened and so I am ready.
