Listen up campers this is a lesson in rock and roll that unfortunately not enough musicians have learned. Morrissey has been in the business for about 30 years now. That's a damn long time and the leader of the phenomenal band The Smiths has had a great run of it. Brilliant work with longevity smidged with just enough scandal to keep the presses rolling.
Morrissey is a smart and shrewd businessman as well. In 1982 he started up The Smiths, in 1988 he opted out for solo and it appears 2014 will be his retirement. He simply acknowledges he is too old for rock and roll. Why on Earth have others not accepted this fact? Leave it to Morrissey to pave yet another path of graceful aging.
Asked during an interview for JuiceOnline.com if he plans to retire at the age of 55, Morrissey says, "Yes. I am slightly shocked to have gone as far as I have. This is my 30th year, and I've aged a lot recently, which is bit distressing for me, as it must be for everyone. The body changes shape and there's nothing you can do about it. Do I continue as a modern day Andy Williams? I take one hour at a time."
Amen, Brother.
