Who the hell is Set It Off? A generic band who did one of the most brilliant career moves of all time and had a dash of luck. A fan recorded their version of My Chemical Romances "I'm Not OK", uploaded it to youtube and with the Beiber-effect… became youtube famous.
Well not really, but sorta. The video was picked up by Altpress.Com, and suddenly every fangirl in town can here the band doing a My Chem tune and sing along. Sorta like the tone deaf dude who is standing near the person who filmed this. The perk is it's actually very good. The band looks dynamic and energetic and despite crappy camera sound the musicians sound fab.
This is a huge trend. Unknown bands taking on cover tunes and making some waves. Its a very cool idea if you do it well. Set it Off does it very well. This video actually inspired me to go hear more of their work. Had they not done this cover and not been posted up on a slow news day I may never have given them the time of day.. why should I? There are 10 zillion bands just like them but due to cosmic flux I stumbled upon a really cool band. I love their look I love the vocals on their other tunes (this one is a bit weak but hey its live and on an Kodak I can cut slack). A very fun band with a great sound doing a cover of an anthem..nice work, nicer discovery. I love finding new bands to dig!
