You’ve heard from Brett and Mike and me about this yesterday. Google taking down blogs which give away free MP3s.
Brett raised the interesting complaint which stated that even if there was no copyright infringement, ir was a conflict in the terms of the giving away of the MP3s (the owners want to track how many hits they get and can’t if the bloggers use them).
So that’s interesting.
However, it is kinda yucky to have a valentine’s day massacre without any real explanation as to why.
“Apparently Digital Millennium Copyright Act operate on their own set of odd rules,” Bill Lipold owner of I Rock Cleveland told the Guardian. “they even requested that the BLK JKS’ official blog remove their own song.”
Anybody who saw the amount of data Google have ON EVERYBODY EVERYWHERE in the MSNBC documentary (every search you’ve ever done) and their mealy mouthed “We would never use it” along with “if you’ve never done any wrong what do you have to worry about”.(how about this google: I don’t want you to know I am being unfaithful to my husband, for instance?) has every right in the world to question Googles actions to the bloggers.
It smacks of kowtowing to power, and it smells of the start of a trend.
