Apparently, Sony and Live Nation are joining forces to offer Shakira $60M for three albums. Let's say the obvious: what? I thought albums were dead and whether they are or not, who is worth $20 Million an album Even if it’s a 360, even if she just won 4 Latin Grammy's. How do they plan to make back their money.
I can't think of any one worth that kinda bread in 2012, can you? Not even Katy Perry or Lady Gaga. We know for certain Madonna and U2 aren't. And who in their right mind believes Adele's next album will sell of what 21 has?
Shakira is a talented woman who crossed right over to the US Charts but its been years since "She Wolf" and longer still since "Whenever Wherever" and her breakthrough "Hips Don't Lie". I loved her World Soccer championship anthem "Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)" but talk about a limited shelf life.
I am not saying she isn't beautiful, eccentric, and lest we forget, half Lebanese. I am saying Shakira is worth $60M about as much as Jay-Z is worth $150M or Madonna $120M. Say for Sony it is hubris, they wanna get Shakira back after losing her, and say since Live Nation have no distribution arm, the deal with Sony makes sense, why the deal with Shakira at all… don't these guys have stockholders to deal with. On what planet is Shakira worth $60M for three albums.
i am baffled by such lousy business acumen. Fuck, I could manage Live nation better. Whoever agreed to this deal should be fired, and if Live Nation continue to throw money away, the next thing they'll be signing is lawyers documents as they go Chapter 11
